Project 52 Week 35: “Moments:Patience”

“She was mouthy with her adopters and drew blood.  We have to quarantine her for 10 days.  We can send her home with a staff member.  Are you available to foster?”

And so it begins.  My first foster … and it’s a “project” puppy.  She’s about 4 months old and had a rough start to life.  She was picked up as a stray – broken ear covered in mud and feces.  She was “shut down” when she arrived at the shelter.  She was adopted out after her “hold” (they waited a week for her owners to step forward but never did) … and then when she was up for adoption she was adopted fast.  She looks like a Siberian Husky and she’s adorable!  The worst happened: The puppy bit her adopter (not a normal puppy bite)

I’ve had Karma for 16 days as i write this.  My own rescue, Kota, had a rough start to life very similar.  Karma has no bite “inhibition” meaning she doesn’t know she has clamped down on your skin and made a puncture.  She doesn’t know to let go.  She is frustrated and finds it challenging to relax.  But the moments she does relax, I love this little thing!  I’m doing my best to make her adoptable.  She is innocent and she can’t tell me her story in words.  I cry every day for her… but I haven’t given up!  We are working on it 🙂

This week’s Lesson, “Patience”, is fitting.  I’m focusing on “patience” as I dig deep for my own patience.  I’m exhausted with this puppy.  Puppies are a challenge when they are perfectly healthy and normal!  But there is a bright side!  Puppies can be fun to photograph, but they do require a ton of PATIENCE!  This week I grabbed my camera to take my time, wait, and capture some joyful moments of this adorable girl, Karma, right in my own backyard.  My goal with her is to make her days joyful and these photos may be the ones that find her a future/forever home 🙂

    1. Thanks so much, Kelly! I was happy with that first image – didn’t even plan to have my husband in the pic but I think it worked 🙂

    1. Thanks Kim 🙂 Critiquing myself I wish I got her whole tail in the pic… but still love the puppy eyes! Hoping for the best for Karma! I’ve had her almost 3 weeks and getting a little better each day!

  1. Puppies = a LOT of patience! So, this was a fitting subject for you this week. You got some great images to show the happiness of puppyhood, despite whatever issues Karma has had to deal with so early in life.

  2. Yes, Susannah, a ton of patience for sure!!! Lots of deep breaths! haha! Thanks … even the most challenging of puppies can still make us smile! Appreciate it!
