Project 52 Week 36: “People and Pets”

This week’s Blog assignment is taken from David Duchemin’s chapter from his book, The Visual Toolbox: ” People”.  Even though I don’t regularly photograph “pets AND people” I LOVED the idea of this topic!  Not everyone loves to be photographed.  I admit, I’m not a fan of being in photos.   When working with families and their dogs I do usually try to go ahead and take a pic of them with there pups.  And guess what usually happens?  Once they see the photos, they fall in love!  Whether it’s that candid moment involving laughter or slobber, or that intimate bond between dog and owner, they are captured memories.  And Duchemin’s words in this chapter explain the process of photographing people perfect:  “Connect with the heart first, and let the eye take over later”. (goes right along with the dogs included!)

Here are a few of my recent favorites.  The first 2 were taken this past weekend on a trail hike with my husband and our pooch, Kota.  The first one makes my smile 🙂  Pete hiding behind Kota.  The second one:  I love laying on the ground and taking pics of paws and feet on trails and walkways – great perspective and unique way to show the bond!

My neighbor with her German Shepherd, Falko.  I slightly clipped the ear and I’m very critical of myself when I do that, but it’s still an intimate moment that I love!

This was a hike at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, MA  with a wonderful young couple and there 2 amazing rescues, Meera and Anya.  The day was a cloudy one and I wasn’t loving the lighting.  After making these 2 pics into black and white I knew they just “worked” and I was very happy with these!

I spend some time photographing adoptable animals at our local MSPCA in Methuen, MA.  This is Nika who is going on a year at the shelter and still looking for a forever home.  This is one of the amazing volunteers who assists me with photos each week.  A perfect moment!
