Have you ever heard of the phrase “black dog/cat syndrome”? Is it really a “thing”? Well, if it is, I’m here to promote some adoptable cats from Cat Tales Rescue in Seabrook, NH for Week 42 of our Pet Photography Blog Project. This week’s topic is Paint it Black, so I”m adding in some amazing cats!
There are many reasons why black animals are a bit more challenging to get adopted. One reason is that their facial expressions are much harder to detect with their dark coats. If it’s a cat, they might be even more “unlucky” – think of all the black cat superstitions out there! Do you freeze the moment a black cat crosses your path? And then there’s Halloween! Doesn’t every witch have a black cat partner in crime?
I do think we have come a long way with all these “studies” of black animals and their adoption rate. A good picture of an adoptable animal goes a long way, and so many more are finding forever homes sooner.
Here are a few of the beauties I met over the past week!
Meet handsome Nichelson. He’s friendly and playful. This guy was perched up here and did not move! When the door opens to Cat Tales, he’s the first thing you see across the room. And he wore this pumpkin hat like a champ! This guy is determined to go home!
Next up is Stealth. She’s good with other cats and sure knows how to rock a witches costume for Halloween!
Meet Midnight – she’s looking for some cat treats this Halloween!
Aren’t they all just gorgeous? Next time you are looking to expand your family with a loving cat, don’t pass over the beautiful black ones at your shelter! They might just be perfect for you!
Next up in our blog circle is Susannah with Pet Love Photography, serving Greater Cincinnati, the San Francisco Bay Area, and destinations nationwide. Take a look and see her beautiful images this week for Paint it Black! Have an amazing weekend!
Great shots of the black cats. The colors of the costumes & props. really make the black cats pop.
Cool pictures, great thought and patience with the costumes! Will certainly help get the cats adopted!
I just love the cat in the pumpkin hat! You have done a lovely job of showcasing the kitties!
I hate seeing so many black cats in the shelters this time of year, thank you for helping them out! Very cute images!
