Searching for Autumn

Welcome to week 45 or our Project 52 Pet Photography Blog Circle.  This week’s topic is “Seasonal”.

I was going to share some images of my recent Holiday Pet Photos for this topic since they are actually called ‘Tis the Season.  But I decided to share my challenge with Autumn this year since it is November and I’m still waiting for this season to show up!  🙂

I LOVE autumn. I love wearing hoodies and hiking the trails.  I love the colors of orange, yellow and reds that adorn the trees.  Unfortunately, there hasn’t been much of that.  I haven’t done a lot of hiking.  The temperatures have hit 60 degrees.  There are days it rains for hours.  The ticks and the bugs are everywhere!  Aren’t they suppose to freeze by now?  With the rain and all of the wind we’ve been having, there aren’t even many leaves left on the trees.  Oh, autumn, where art thou???

How have I been coping with this lack of Fall and stunning colors?  I’ve had to do a little bit of “pretend” with my editing!

Here is an example.  This image was taken on Oct. 12th – which should be some nice foliage!  Notice all the “greenery” in the before image.

To edit this image to look more “autumn” I used some “Greater than Gatsby” photoshop artistic enhancements for the background colors.  One of my favorites being called “Hot Tamale” which adds a rich warmth to the image.  I really love the name of it!  🙂  And then what I do is “mask” off Kota to keep her original coloring so she doesn’t look super orange in color.

My most recent autumn photo session was on October 22nd.  It was a 40 minute drive north of where I live in NH at the winery.  This was “peak” from what I have seen!  The colors were lovely, but notice the icicles on the leaves behind handsome Jerry!  This was a morning we woke up to a frost with temperatures in the 20’s.  Yes, or weather can fluctuate 40 degrees just like that!

The leaves are a little bit “confused” here in October 🙂

  1. I agree with you. Foliage this year is lousy. I like how you enhanced the colors of the foliage in the backgrounds of your photos. Great Job!!

  2. Sounds like we’re sharinf weather woes this autumn! I can’t count how many drab days I’ve photographed—although the colors can be relaxing—and how many sessions I had to reschedule due to rain. Hooray for post-processing!

  3. Gorgeous! Your pictures *almost* make me miss New England, but it feels like it down here this morning, I woke up to 28 temps! Yikes! Luckily we’ll be back in the 60’s this weekend.

Tell me what you think!
