Spring is here! For those who don’t love bitter cold, shorter days, and snow or ice, this may be your season! Spring in Massachusetts is definitely a breath of fresh air. You may see neverending mud, but I guarantee that things ARE coming alive with flowers beginning to bloom, lush greens appearing, and warmer temperatures.
If you’ve been waffling over whether or not it’s time to schedule a professional photo session with your dog, spring is one of the most magical times to make it happen. (Ok, I’ll be honest – I find magic in all four seasons in New England!)
Here’s why:
1. Spring offers beautiful natural backdrops
Have you seen the cherry blossoms in Boston along the Charles River?
Are you a fan of the stunning yellows of forsythia? You can come right to my own backyard!
Or what about rhododendrons and azaleas? Maudslay State Park in Newburyport and Kelsey Arboretum in Boxford are perfect spots for these!

Do you love something a little more “bold”? Spring is also great for unique graffiti walls that add a vibrant, urban pop of color for you pup’s portraits.

2. Comfortable temperatures for your pup
Do you have a little dog or a dog that doesn’t love temps below 50 degrees?
Or maybe you have a dog with a thicker, double coat.
In the summer, hot pavement and high humidity can be tough on dogs. Spring’s mild temperatures will keep you dog happy and comfortable throughout their portrait session. No long tongues in photos!!!

3. Beautiful lighting
Honestly, there is beautiful lighting all fours seasons here in New England, but I still have to include this. Something about spring’s golden hour that offers less harsh sunlight than summer, making it more flattering for both you and your dog.
The sun sits lower in the sky, casting a beautiful glow that adds warmth to every portrait. This is especially striking against colorful backdrops like flowers—or a fun graffiti wall like the one below!

4. Spring beats the busy season of summer
I admit – I don’t love crowds! And summer can get pretty busy out there! Dogs prefer less distractions, and parks and trails are bit quieter in the spring.
Summer can also get hectic with vacations, and other events – let’s get your portraits in before the rush of getting “all the things” in during the summer!

5. Beaches are still dog friendly!
Woohoo!!! Most beaches are dog friendly until Memorial Day, so if you haven’t scheduled a beach session, now is the time! There is nothing like a peaceful sunrise with your pooch.
Imagine your dog splashing in the waves, catching a frisbee airborne, and running along the shoreline – all without those summer crowds!
Do you love the idea of a silhouette portrait with your dog? I promise you it’s worth waking up at the crack of dawn (actually, in the dark!) for.

Are you ready to book your spring portrait session?
As you can see, spring in Massachusetts has so much to offer! Whether you’re drawn to beautiful blooms, vibrant graffiti walls, or the last few weeks of dog-friendly beaches, there’s no shortage of stunning backdrops for your portrait session.
